FOCUS #5 - Bearcat Individual Summer Shooting Program
Every elite program has a skill set that gives them a competitive advantage. For some it's height, or quickness, or maybe ball handling. Our competitive advantage must be our ability to shoot the ball from the perimeter. This is a teachable skill that requires one thing: hard work. Being a Bearcat is all about hard work. This summer, we begin the process of being great shooters. Our shooting program is called "3 or the Key" Shooting Club. We highly encourage every player to participate in the program. We are committed to increasing our ability to knock down shots. It will be a mandatory skill set in our offenses going forward. To the right under "Important Sites" is our 3 or the Key Shooting Program.

FOCUS #4 - Basketball Skills Training in/for Aledo
Basketball is an ever changing sport, and along with it so is skill training. It demands technical on court skills, tactical and mental acuity, and athletic ability. Unlike other sports,in basketball, natural ability will not get it done. To be a competitive, complete player and excel at the highest level you must consistently work on your skills. Again, basketball is a skill game that requires repetition in footwork, ball handling, and shooting.

SOLUTION: In my years of success as a coach, the one commonality is that each year we had a highly qualified basketball trainer that supported our program and trained our kids. We, now, have that here in Aledo, Matt Garnett is an Aledo native, his kids attend Aledo ISD, and he fully supports our basketball program. For more information on dates/times/cost etc, please contact him at mgbbinfo@gmail.com or mgbasketballemail@gmail.com. We will post more specifics as it comes in May.

Again, I want to give your son every opportunity to be successful. Basketball Skills training is important for that opportunity, especially for our multi-sport athletes. We have one of the best trainers in the state.

FOCUS #3 - High School Summer Camp (Camp Flyer is to the right under "Important Sites")
Our High School Summer Camp is called the Bearcat "All In" Camp. It is for incoming 1st - 9th grade student athletes. The dates this year are June 4-7. We encourage all kids to attend this camp!

Again, we highly encourage all basketball players in Aledo to attend our camp; However our camp is open to anyone who would like to attend. Last year, we had over 160 camp participants. It is a great way to build relationships with coaches in a fun environment, learn life-long character lessons, and discover and/or build on what it takes to be an Aledo basketball player through skill development in "Bearcat Basics".

FOCUS #2: Basketball Strength Program
Our culture is that what we cannot do with speed or quickness or athleticism, we CAN do with strength. We believe our strength program produces a mental toughness and confidence to win every rep that translates into games. Our community is unique in that the type of kids we currently have do everything they can, above and beyond, to achieve the “goals” our program has. Our athletic department (football, baseball, soccer, etc.) come together to create athletes in our athletic programs. We work out together as an athletic program. We continue our development with Summer Performance Course. Flyer to the left under Important Sites. In order to compete at a championship level, we must incorporate both strength and skill development. Strength development is reasonable and attainable for every player.

FOCUS #1 - Participation in Select Programs:
This is one of the largest areas of growth for our program. As a parent of aspiring basketball children, I discovered that select basketball is necessary for kids to be successful in high school basketball. It develops 3 things for our kids: 1) Competitive Experience - allows our kids to play against a higher level of talent from across the state/nation, improve game situation decision-making; 2) Diverse Coaching/Training - allows our kids to improve leadership ability by working with different coaches while developing advanced skills; 3) Exposure - allows our kids to be recognized for work ethic and skill improvement by state recruiters, schools, etc.

SOLUTION: There are several select programs out there, but there are two so far that have established rapport and have worked well with/for our Aledo kids: Texas Express and DFW Hawks Basketball. The communication and relationship between the high school coaches and the select program coaches is essential. Also, I want to recommend programs that are for kids and parents in regard to location, cost, flexibility, and development. They both support Aledo athletics. Texas Express has been a great resource for our high school athletes, while DFW Hawks has been good for our middle school athletes. Here is their web address and contact name.
